Brittany’s section of La Velodyssée – also on the French part of the much longer EuroVelo 1 route, linking Roscoff to Hendaye – follows the Canal de Nantes à Brest along a fair stretch. This canal is considered one of greatest technological feats of 19th-century France, with its 238 locks, its feeder channels and its many works of art.

Saint-Malo - Rhuys - Route 3

This cycle route in good part follows a disused railway line. Leaving the ramparts of the historic corsair port of St-Malo, you head for the legendary Forest of Brocéliande, main focus of Brittany’s rich Arthurian legends, and to Ploërmel, a favourite home of the medieval dukes of Brittany.

The Roscoff - Mont-Saint-Michel route has a strong maritime flavour, going along Brittany’s north coast, and makes up a section of the enchanting cross-Channel Tour de Manche cycle route. It also forms part of the EuroVelo 4 route, which, one day, will go as far as Kiev in Ukraine!

Following on from Brittany’s very popular coastal hiking path (the Chemin des Douaniers), the region is now creating a coastal cycle route tracking strands, bays and more savage stretches as closely as possible. Cyclists are steered along quiet lanes, via picturesque ports and beaches.
